For over 1,000 years, Marrakech has stood as a gateway between North Africa and the Sahara Desert.
Its traditional spice markets grew from trans-Saharan trade routes stretching more than 4,000 kilometers, where caravans carried salt, spices, dyes, and gold across the desert.

Spices such as saffron, cumin, paprika, and indigo dye once traveled for weeks by camel, shaping the colors, scents, and daily life of the medina.
These markets were not just places to sell goods — they were centers of medicine, cooking, and cultural exchange.

This video opens the Marrakech series through Protanopia, a form of red–green color blindness.
For people with Protanopia, warm reds, browns, and greens can merge, altering depth, distance, and the sense of terrain.
