In this how-to-video, the crew from the "Biggest Loser" demonstrates just how easy it is to install this versatile Zcycle rubber flooring in your home gym or fitness center.
ZCycle rolls are a unique rubber flooring roll made entirely from discarded tires and recycled rubber materials from the United States. Environmentally friendly floors are among the most durable and reliable rubber flooring options you could choose. The 1/4" thick roll is comfortable to stand or workout on and supportive enough to handle heavy workout equipment. That is why Zcycle eco-friendly floors from Rubber-Cal are a perfect alternative to regular rubber gym flooring. Recycled flooring is the most affordable flooring option in the industry and it's easy to install, saving you even more money.
Before getting started make sure you have all the necessary tools to complete the job. To do this job properly you will need access to the following items; gloves, knee pads, utility knife with extra blades, a t-square, a piece of chalk, doubled-sided carpet tape and a broom.
Rubber roll flooring can be laid over of a variety of hard surfaces, such as plywood, hardwood, concrete, asphalt, tile and linoleum. The "Biggest Loser" crew is laying their recycled flooring on plywood. Make sure to sweep the sub-surface prior to any type of installation. This will keep the doubled-sided carpet from peeling up and will ensure the rubber gym flooring remain flat and secure to the ground below. Carefully make guidelines on the floor before laying the double-sided carpet tape. This will allow for accurate installation of the rubber roll flooring. Begin unrolling the environmentally friendly flooring as demonstrated in the video. Make sure to use the pre-laid tape as your guide and double check often to verify that it is adhering to the flooring below properly.
The crew in the video makes it look simple because it really is that simple
Once the rubber roll flooring is down, peel the protective layer of the double-sided tape off slowly and flatten the mat as you go. Press the gym equipment mat firmly, smoothing out any uneven areas to keep your rubber gym flooring flush and flat on the ground.
It's a good idea to use a utility knife to carefully remove the protective coving from the tape. Notice the crew member in the video is not wearing gloves while cutting, but we suggest you wear gloves when cutting any type of material.
Rubber-Cal Zcycle recycled flooring rolls come in length up to 50ft. But, sometimes even that may not be long enough to cover the entire room. To accommodate your room size you may need to connect two rolls of rubber roll flooring. You can quickly do this by using a technique called "seaming."
Properly adjoining two rolls together will create a smooth transition from one roll to the other without dangerous bumps or uneven areas. This will give the gym equipment mat a clean, safe and finished look and feel.
To ensure a flawless seam, overlap the end of the new rubber roll with the gym mat you have already installed. Use a straightedge or t-square to help facilitate a straight cut. Use a technique called "scoring" to cut through the top layer or rubber. Be sure to press hard enough to leave a line on the gym mat below. Use the line on the mat below to make your final cut. This will ensure the two ends are flush and even against each other.
Watch the "Biggest Loser: crew member use his knee to keep the ruler in place while cutting. This will help keep the edge in place for a neat straight cut.
