Trois Mélodies de 1886 is an early song cycle by French composer Erik Satie, written when he was just 20 years old. The three songs—"Les Anges," "Élégie," and "Sylvie"—are set to poems by Satie’s friend J.P. Contamine de Latour, a Symbolist writer and longtime collaborator.

These mélodies reflect Satie’s departure from traditional harmonic conventions, using slow, unbarred chord progressions built on sevenths and seconds. This results in a floating, introspective sound that emphasizes timbre over tonal resolution, perfectly aligned with the ambiguity and decadence of Symbolist poetry.

Though lesser known than his later works, this cycle reveals Satie’s early experimentation with musical form and his subtle, ironic sensibility. Composed two years before the iconic Gymnopédies, these pieces already hint at his radically modern outlook.
