The tragedy at PIMS has drawn intense public attention, with authorities ordering an investigation following the deaths of newborns in a hospital fire.

At least 14 infants were killed in a fire early Wednesday at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a state-run hospital in Islamabad. The fire began around 7 a.m. on the third floor of the hospital’s mother and child health ward and is believed to have been caused by a fault in the air conditioning system.
