Описание: I normally never post any of my parrot rescues as they happen because I’m not out to shame or bash anyone. People are less likely to reach out for help if you bash everyone you help. That being said this one had to be shared. Before I started the new owner wanted to at least have the hallway cleared out so I could get to the rooms. Her worker shoveled it all out and filled an entire long dumpster with just the hallway trash. Unfortunately while he was doing that roughly half of the birds escaped while he had the door open. Many of those were spotted and found nearby in the coming days exhausted unable to continue. I can’t blame him as the smell was something out of nightmares that I can still smell when watching the video. If I could’ve participated in that I would have screened off the door so they were contained. The couple that lived here bred and sold birds for 30 years. They became elderly developing mental disabilities as well. As they went downhill so did their situation. No family or anyone ever came to check in on them. Injuries and other things left them immobile and the trash started piling up. They didn’t even throw away their used dirty adult diapers they threw them on the floor. They left one sink dripping in the back bathroom that filled up a bowl and then overflowed down the sink drain. They all had to drink from that one source in the back bathroom. The rats and mice as well. I could see it was a dangerous area where birds ran afoul of and lost their battle with rats already at the watering hole. These people just walked away from this house leaving everything they owned behind buying another one. They sold this one to one of the we buy houses people which is who called me. They came by periodically and unscrewed a lid from those plastic containers and just tossed it towards the kitchen area. To eat the birds also had to battle the rats lying in wait and feeding off of their food source as well. You could hear them all around you and underneath scurrying. I’m no expert but I typically never hear a mouse do anything. They were in there on their own like that for 3 months. Imagine being the person that bought that house thinking you got a decent deal then pulling up and finding the disaster left behind. The owners that walked away were both retired school teachers. They were normal well respected people at one time. Keep that in mind because this is what can happen if nobody checks on loved ones. We ended up with 49 birds from that house. I ended up catching 7 of the ones that escaped. Sadly most of the ones caught outside were caught by me because they came back wanting in. They do that because they don’t know how to survive outside. They stayed close enough to wait for a chance to get to what they knew. Some just didn’t have the energy to travel far also. All 7 caught outside died within a few days. 2 died before we even made it back with them. We lost 12 more within the first week from starvation & stress. We also recieved 10 bodies from people in the area that sadly were already dead or died before we could pick them up. I had to come back the next 3 days after this and sit in the dark listening for bird chirps so I could make sure I got everyone. I didn’t want to leave any survivors in there alone. The third day I heard no chirps and saw no birds only upset rats all around me hoping I die there. I called it after that. Most of these birds found homes here locally. We still have some & just lost one 11/25/24. This was a nightmare! The worst rescue of my life thus far. I used to be a firefighter & have done some stuff but nothing was ever like this in my past. The worst I’ve ever seen, heard about, or watched on tv. We saved what we could. Many people disagree with my decision on this but we even saved the humans that caused this. We went to adult protective services and left the law out of it. What good would it do to tack on a bunch of charges on an elderly, confused, & mentally disabled couple anyways? We just wanted them to get the help they needed and never ever ever be able to do something like this again. Thank you to the only two in a city of a million who volunteered to help me with this I really don’t know how I would’ve done it without them. I would’ve died in there trying alone is what would’ve happened. They know who they are. You can help our cause by donating at our Facebook page donate button. We have PayPal at [email protected].
