Shasta Cascade - California's Hidden Gem: A bitesize guide to some of the best spots to explore

Описание: We recently visited the Shasta Cascade in Northern California. Tucked away from any really major cities, it really is a hidden gem and an absolute must see for adventure lovers.

This video gives a brief overview of some of the best places to check out for adventure lovers in and around the Shasta Cascade region - which is vast (there really is so much to see). In partnership with Visit California, here are some highlights in the Mt. Shasta and Lassen Volcanic region that you're going to want to add to your list:

Mt. Shasta trails: Whilst the ascent on Mt. Shasta itself is very demanding and requires significant experience, there are plenty of trails that allow exploration on it's foothills. Areas like Lower and Upper Panther Meadows and the Grey Butte trail all offer incredible hiking with views of the mountain.

Castle Crags State Park: Situated just down from Dunsmuir, you'll find this fantastic state park with world renowned hiking. From harder trails such as Castle Dome, to more accessible trails like Vista Point this area is really worth checking out. You'll also be treated to exceptional views of Mt. Shasta from many of the hikes in this area.

Girard Ridge: This fantastic area gives breathtaking views from an old lookout station. You'll get panoramic views of Mt. Shasta and Castle Crags from here. You can also book to stay in the lookout for a rustic experience on recreation.gov

Trinity Alps and Trinity Alps Wilderness: If you're looking for solitude, this area may well be for you! Endless hiking, backcountry routes, swimming and river activities to be found here.

Castle Lake: A fantastic alpine lake which is great for watersports. Fantastic hiking can be had from here too. Such as up to Heart Lake and into the wilderness further along. Truly stunning views from every direction here.

Lake Siskiyou: A beautiful lake with stunning views over the mountains to Mt. Shasta, this is a great spot for water sports, such as paddle boarding, canoeing and swimming.

Other activities: If you're not into hiking or watersports, there's also plenty of other things to keep you interested. Many of the forestry roads into the wilderness are suitable for mountain bikes. You'll also find a wealth of 4x4 and ATV trails here too. Stargazing is also incredibly popular due to the minimal light pollution in the area. You'll also find a buzzing scene in places like Shasta City and Redding which are close by too.
