CGF Patio Style: Chromatic Groove Fusion (CGF) is a researcher-led Style of Play designed to move the bass guitar from the background to the center of the spotlight. We have affectionately called it “Patio Style” as it is designed to be the perfect companion for relaxing on a beautiful day. We focus on the raw, rhythmic connection between the lead melody of the bass and the pulse of the drums. This is C.G.L.K. (Core Groove Lock & Key): the bass establishes the lock, and the percussion acts as the key to releasing the groove.

The Lock: In CGF, the bass guitar is the star. It provides a warm, melodic foundation that fills the air without over-powering the moment. Whether driven by foot-triggered percussion or a drummer and their drum kit, the focus is on the player's total control over the energy. No loops, no backing tracks, and no click tracks—just the organic, unfiltered connection between the string and the strike.

The Key: The drum strike is the "Key" that unlocks the groove. In CGF, we don't follow a machine; we follow the pulse of the player(s). This allows the melody to breathe and expand naturally—giving the bass guitar the freedom to lead the rhythm and set a relaxed atmosphere.
