Описание: The British progressive rock group Yes live in concert at the Rochester, New York War Memorial Auditorium (now known as the Blue Cross Arena) on September 16, 1980. The band had just released their latest album 'Drama' which featured the members of The Buggles, Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn, as replacements for band founder and vocalist Jon Anderson and "Classic Yes" keyboardist Rick Wakeman.

This concert featured seven tracks from the 'Drama' album or sessions as noted with an asterisk in the set list below. It also has a fairly rare, if quite shaky, performance of "Parallels" from the 1977 'Going For The One' album which was only done a handful of times on the 1980 'Drama' tour.

This audio starts with a tour promo radio spot from Philadelphia's 94FM WYSP which has a quote from vocalist Trevor Horn about the upcoming concerts. The DJ mentions that songs that Yes were rehearsing for the tour included the 'Drama' tracks on this audio as well as the following non-'Drama' songs: Siberian Khatru, Starship Trooper, America, Roundabout, On The Silent Wings Of Freedom, Long Distance Runaround, The Fish and South Side Of The Sky. Only Starship Trooper, Roundabout and The Fish from that list were actually done on the 1980 tour along with earlier Yes material like Yours Is No Disgrace, Clap, and And You And I.

In early 1980, Tevor Horn and Geoff Downes began work on a second Buggles album in London, working in a studio next door to that of the progressive rock band Yes, who had lost vocalist Jon Anderson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman following failed recording sessions for a potential new album.

In particular, Horn had been a long-standing fan of Yes. The Buggles offered a song to Yes, "We Can Fly from Here", but at the suggestion of Brian Lane, manager of both bands, Yes' bassist Chris Squire invited them to actually replace Anderson and Wakeman as members of Yes. Horn and Downes accepted the offer and joined Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White to record Drama.

As Buggles/Yes/Asia keyboardist/composer Geoff Downes recalls “Trevor and I had to make a living and a lot of the living that we did was through session work, backing bands and all of that sort of thing. It was only really when we decided to go ahead with the Buggles that things changed, but we still had some progressive elements in the Buggles. Even though it’s pop, it’s quirky pop. It’s not your regular straight song-orientated stuff.”

“We experimented with technology a lot. I think that’s one of the things that when we got involved with the same management as Yes, I think Chris, Steve and Alan were not doing a lot at the time – or they were just rehearsing as a three-piece. Of course, Trevor being a singer and me being a keyboard player, there was a space there. They asked us one day, “Do you want to write a song for us?” We got into a rehearsal room with them and started working on a few bits and pieces. I think “Machine Messiah” was the grounding thing we started.”

“We also had a song called “I Am a Camera,” which was a Buggles song. They redeveloped that and it turned into “Into the Lens.” So we kind of morphed into Yes. I think they really appreciated having a couple of technological guys in there because, you know, they’ve done all of the big stuff. They’d done the 20-minute “Close To The Edge” type of songs. They’d done the ‘Tales From Topographic Oceans’ album and all of these great, fantastic big songs, but they were looking for something a bit more up to date. So, it was a big turning point for Yes at that time, going from the ’70s into the ’80s. The ‘Drama’ album is really the pinnacle of that for them.”

“We helped to inject some modernism. Certainly, a lot of the lyrical stuff of Yes, it’s fabulous but it was a lot of pastoral lyrics and stuff like that – whereas when we came in, there were crunchy sounds and I think it really started Yes into the direction they took in the ’80s, certainly when Trevor Rabin came into the band and Trevor Horn produced ‘90125’. I think ‘Drama’ was really the paving stone for that going forward.”
