Italy's willingness to cooperate with the United States remains firm, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday (January 23), as she spoke to the media after holding bilateral talks in Rome with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Both Italy and Germany "historically have had privileged relations with the United States," Meloni told reporters, praising the "pragmatic, rather than instinctive" approach of the two countries towards Washington. "There are objectively problems with how the initiative (the Board of Peace) has been configured, which for us are even of a constitutional nature. To date, the statute that has been sent to us would be unconstitutional and therefore incompatible with our system," Meloni said.
