Consider the word ‘grace’ with its definitions and concepts that have mainly been taught for over 2,000 years by Christianity as being a foundation stone in their doctrine of salvation. The Apostle Paul in his writings to the Ephesians said, "[8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV)

Is there a battle of Grace vs The Law (or works)? Does one negate the other or are they intended by the Creator to work in tandem? Is there really a ‘doctrine of grace’?

Many have been unsettled by the Christian definition of ‘grace’ as being “unmerited favor” because one should know that in or out of this life there’s no such thing as a “free lunch” or a “free ride”. How could one possibly receive “unmerited favor” and ultimately an entrance into the Forever Kingdom without any action or effort to change on their part? That a benevolent Being would rescue humans from a fiery end without any requirement on their part? Come on, man!

In this series, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes you through the Scriptures, from cover to cover, to uncover the true definitions and concepts of ‘grace’. From his Search for the Doctrine of Grace, he will show you the word ‘grace’ as it appears in the original language, Hebrew and Greek, in which it was written along with the contextual setting intended by the authors.
