Shinkansen tickets to Kanazawa - Tokyo on the Hokuriku Shinkansen limited-stop "Kagayaki" cost about $140 one way and takes 2.5 hours (4 stops). The Kagayaki leaves once every two hours and make sure you have a seat reservation! There are Shinkansen trains that leave more frequently but take a little extra time with a few more stops. The "Hakutaka" Hokuriku Shinkansen (13 stops) will stop at most stations and takes 3+ hours. Driving to Kanazawa would take 6 hours from Tokyo.
The Bento (Ekiben) is from Otomoro, a famous restaurant in Kanazawa and it's sold inside the station with several varieties and very reasonably priced.
