An EMD GP15 leads a short LPJ04 "Troy Grove Job" between the grain elevators in Rollo, Illinois and towards the sand mines of Troy Grove.
A beautiful early September afternoon with scattered cloud shadows on the still green crops. Perhaps my favorite video of 2016.
This is one that I've had composed in my mind for several years. But the train timing and circumstances had never worked out. So I was fortunate to have enough time to race ahead of this "Troy Grove Job" and set up for the shot after the previous capture. A single Typhoon H hexacopter view, along with a stand-alone audio recorder on the ground to capture the train sound. The 360 camera slung under the drone with the landing gear retracted gives an unobstructed view. And the pan control makes for easy tracking. Especially at the relatively slow speed of this train.
Dedicated to railfan friend Clarke Renard. I first met Clarke here in Rollo several winters ago while chasing this same train. Clarke is going through a rough time with some health issues.
