Spray Foam Insulation:
Spray foam is a liquid insulation that expands on application to fill gaps, cracks, and cavities. It provides a continuous thermal barrier, reduces air leakage, and acts as a moisture and vapor barrier. It is ideal for areas where a tight seal is critical, such as attics, walls, and hard-to-reach spaces.
Blown-In Insulation:
Blown-in insulation consists of loose fibers, often cellulose or fiberglass, that are mechanically blown into wall cavities or attic spaces. It is effective for filling irregular spaces and adding additional insulation to existing areas, but it does not create an air-tight seal like spray foam.
Key Differences:
Spray foam creates a stronger air barrier and higher R-value per inch, while blown-in insulation is generally easier to install and cost-effective for large or existing spaces. Each type has specific applications depending on efficiency, budget, and the area being insulated.
