In view of the prevailing winter conditions and the heightened risk of snowfall and avalanches, the District Administration Kulgam has put in place comprehensive preparedness measures to effectively tackle any weather-related exigency.

As part of these measures, 128 shelters have been established in avalanche-prone areas of the district by utilizing school buildings and other government infrastructure to ensure safety and timely rehabilitation of affected populations. Vulnerable families residing in high-risk zones have also been identified and assessed to facilitate swift and focused response during emergencies.

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Amir Shafi Khan, while reviewing the preparedness arrangements, assured that the district administration is fully geared up to handle any weather-related situation. He informed that control rooms have been established at the Mini Secretariat, Kulgam, which will function round the clock to monitor the situation and coordinate relief and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also visited the Mechanical Division to review the preparedness for snow clearance and winter management. During the visit, he was informed that around 40 snow clearance machines have been positioned at strategic locations across the district to ensure smooth and timely clearance of roads.

The Deputy Commissioner further stated that essential commodities have been adequately stocked in Damhal Hanjipora and Kund areas to prevent any inconvenience to the public during adverse weather conditions. He emphasized the need for close coordination among all concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted essential services throughout the winter season.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with the administration, and strictly follow advisories issued from time to time in the interest of public safety.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), and other senior officers.
