Speaking your truth can feel terrifying. Often, we were conditioned that expressing what we really think and feel has negative consequences. In childhood, you may have been punished for speaking out. Maybe you were judged, given the silent treatment, ridiculed or told you were over reacting. Those unresolved conflicts still live inside of you and you may still be afraid you will be rejected or love will be withdrawn if you say how you really feel.
But there's a high price to pay for suppressing our feelings. By keeping silent, we abandon ourselves. You are essentially telling your own inner child that their feelings don't matter. Days can turn into weeks and even years of self denial. We lose our connection with our self and, in the process, any hope of a real connection with anyone else. It may feel scary. But isn't your inner child worth it?
