Belarus, 1942. Anastasia Petrov was a 38-year-old widow. Her husband had died fighting Germans in 1941. When wounded Soviet soldiers retreated through her village, she opened her cellar. 14 men. They hid for 6 months below her kitchen floor. She fed them potatoes and beet soup, drawing the cellar door closed each time German patrols entered. Her young son Sasha — age 9 — kept watch silently from the porch. Not one soldier was discovered. All 14 returned to fight. Anastasia was honored with the Order of the Patriotic War in 1985. She refused to wear it.
