The 2023 Farm Bill is used by the US Congress to set national policy for agriculture, conservation, nutrition and more. Special interests are already lining up for their slice of the must-pass bill, which will replace the 2018 Farm Bill set to expire on October 1st, 2023. While some lawmakers are hoping the bill will prioritize agricultural conservation, advocacy groups are pushing for increased investment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other programs in the nutrition category. Beyond agricultural conservation and nutrition, other points of negotiation include farm animal welfare, inflation, costs of production and commodities and rural development.
