On a warm afternoon, three kittens — Yuki, Haru, and Mochi — build a tiny wooden house in their yard while Mama Sora watches from the doorway. Without warning a violent storm destroys everything, and the floodwater sweeps Yuki through the gate before anyone can reach her.
Sora runs into the storm alone, following Yuki's trail to the riverbank where she finds only the bunny toy floating in the flood. Believing the worst, she collapses in the mud clutching it — until Papa Kenji arrives home, finds two terrified kittens pointing into the dark, and drives straight into the storm to find her.
He finds Sora at the river's edge and pulls her back. Together they search the flooded fields by truck, until the headlights catch something red and beige tied to a roadside post — Yuki's scarf, knotted there deliberately as a signal. They follow her small paw prints and find her sheltered in a hillside hollow, completely unharmed — and completely focused on keeping an injured bird alive, wrapped in her own scarf, using her own warmth.
She had been afraid the entire time. She stayed anyway.
The family drives home together. The bird comes with them. The storm ends. Everyone is home.
