“‘t Is Weer Voorbij Die Mooie Zomer” is a Dutch adaptation of “City Of New Orleans,” the American folk song by Steve Goodman. Gerard Cox created the Dutch version in 1973 with completely different lyrics and a uniquely nostalgic atmosphere. He sings it with that typical blend of plainspoken warmth and wistfulness. The arrangement stays modest and lets the nostalgia take the lead. It’s music that pulls you back to a long-gone summer that faded just a bit too quickly. Gerard Cox was a Rotterdam-born singer, cabaret performer and actor with a voice you recognize instantly. In 1979 he wrote the lyrics for “Colorado”, the Dutch entry performed by Xandra (Sandra Reemer) on the Eurovision stage.
