Who is... The Thing?!?! Finally Revealed! Childs vs. MacReady

Описание: Notice I didn't say, who is human? Carpenter is coy about this, for good reason. It gives the movie staying power, and that dose of mystery that has followed this movie around for as long as it devoted fanbase.

So, there's no harm in pulling back the curtain now, amirite? It's just my opinion, anyways, right, RIGHT!??!

That right there is bold fighting words, eh?

I base this off research of the movie, and a personal experience I had with Carpenter himself. Take that with a grain of salt.

Fun highlights include, who ISN"T human (including nifty CGI f/x towards that end, no AI) and the fun catchy yet somber song "There Won't Be Many Coming Home" by Roy Orbison. Which is used by "The Thing" homage horror-western "The Hateful Eight"(2015).

Why that change at the end, and the touch of pop-culture?

The Thing (1982) is a great movie. But I always felt like it fell short of the general audience, unlike John Carpenter's previous movie before this, his masterpiece Escape From New York (1981), which was a movie for anyone.

One of my goals with my fan edit of "The Thing" (1982) is to make the movie accessible, more of a bonafide movie rather than the niche cult horror film it became. There's evidence of a more ambitious epic that was planned, from the production itself and original drafts of the script (complete with unfilmed scenes, deleted scenes, unfilmed f/x, unused undeveloped character arcs, and storyboards of unfilmed moments).

So, like the ironic use of the icon classic song "Bandstand Boogie" in Escape from New York, we have a scene that sets the tone, and fun tic of early John Carpenter to make his movies a touch more goofy and lived in, like filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Roger Altman was known for.
