A traditional handmade Teochew pastry shop, Sze Thye Cake Shop was established since 1950 at Liang Seah Street before moving over to Beach Road. The specialties are peanut candies (贡糖), sesame and peanut brittle, Tau Sar Piah, and Beh Teh Saw.
Mr Koh, now in his 70s, helms the shop and makes all the pastries single-handedly. He has been making the pastries since he was 13, and learnt the craft from the masters before him. He goes by this saying: “Once you master a skill, nobody can steal it away from you”.
