Snorkeling with massive schools of sardines and swimming alongside sea turtles in Moalboal, Cebu was one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives. The famous Moalboal Sardine Run happens just a short swim from shore, and being completely surrounded by millions of shimmering fish is something we’ll never forget.

We booked our snorkeling tour through the resort we were staying at, The Sea Turtle House (Agoda link below). The cost was PHP 500 / USD per person, which included two professional guides — one acting as a safety guide and the other as an underwater videographer. One of our friends opted for scuba diving instead and paid PHP 1,800 / USD for an approximately 45-minute dive, which she described as absolutely epic.

Because it was high tide, our guides took us about 50 yards from shore, where we spent nearly an hour snorkeling with the sardines and encountering multiple sea turtles. Both guides had fins and were able to dive deep to capture incredible underwater footage while also helping us dive down safely to experience the sardines up close.

After wrapping up our dive, we picked up our friend from her scuba session and headed to Marina Italian Restaurant for a well-earned victory lunch, sharing stories and soaking in what had been an amazing day in Moalboal.
