Saying Goodbye To A Toxic Family: 3 Things You Need To Consider

Описание: A toxic family often struggles with little to no boundaries, maintains an unhealthy culture or environment for generations, and also doesn't know how to (or doesn't care to) change.

A toxic family will experience major shifts when a family member decides to leave the family or leave the "cliques" within the family.

*Some examples of this major shift includes:
1. A form of diffusion of responsibility: diffusion of responsibility may happen in a situation where more than one person can respond to something and as a result, no one ends up responding. In a toxic family, for example, your mother may refuse to acknowledge and apologize for years of parental neglect and emotional abuse that resulted in your parents being charged and jailed. If your mother's side of the family believes that your father and his side of the family may apologize for what you went through, you may never receive the validation and apology you deserve from either parent. Both parents shut down in hopes that the other parent will make a move first.

2. Shifting family dynamic: Everything in the family is likely to change once you decide to put up healthy boundaries or walk away completely. Your enemies may become your friends OR you may walk away with absolutely no family ties.

3. Prying: unhealthy families are often like high school cliques where the "popular" people get together with the "unpopular" people to talk about why you aren't coming around anymore, why you made that decision, who you made that decision with, and how "bad" things are going to happen for separating from the family.
