In this video, I take a closer look at the Nomos Orion Neomatik 39 Black, a minimalist watch that might be one of the purest expressions of modern Bauhaus design.

My name is Luuk, and today we’re exploring what makes this watch so unique, from its ultra-thin profile to its refined proportions and in-house German movement.

The Nomos Orion has been part of the Nomos Glashütte collection for years, and this black dial version gives it a more modern, sharper look compared to the classic white models. With a 39mm stainless steel case and a thickness of under 9mm, this is one of the slimmest automatic watches in its class.
But this watch is not about specifications — it’s about design, proportion, and subtle details.
Inspired by Bauhaus principles, the Orion is stripped back to the essentials:– No date window– No unnecessary text– Clean dial layout with slim hands and refined hour markers.

On the wrist, the Nomos Orion Neomatik 39 wears incredibly well. The long lugs give it presence, while the thin case allows it to slide effortlessly under a cuff. It feels modern, minimal, and perfectly balanced.
Inside the watch, you’ll find the DUW 3001 movement, Nomos’ ultra-thin in-house automatic calibre. With a height of just 3.2mm, a power reserve of around 43 hours, and a frequency of 21,600 vph, it’s an impressive piece of engineering. Through the sapphire caseback, you can admire traditional Glashütte finishing like ribbing and perlage, along with the signature neomatik rotor.
Nomos Glashütte is based in Glashütte, Germany, home to some of the most respected watchmakers in the world. But unlike brands like A. Lange & Söhne or Glashütte Original, Nomos takes a more modern, design-driven approach to watchmaking. And the Orion is one of the best examples of that philosophy.
This is not a sports watch.There’s no lume, no screw-down crown, and no focus on ruggedness.
