If you’re making multiple brackets with the same hole pattern, laying out every hole on every part wastes a ton of time.
Here’s the trick:
Take a thin piece of sheet metal (24–26 gauge works great) and lay out your hole pattern one time. Drill or punch the holes in the sheet metal and now you have a reusable template.
Clamp the template over your bracket, hit each hole with a center punch, and move on to the next part.
Instead of laying out 75 holes for 15 brackets, you only lay out 5 holes once.
This is one of those simple fabrication tricks that saves a ton of time in the shop.
