This was never about crime.
It was always about control.
In Earth Is Ghetto — Episode 5, we break down the truth behind the Prison Industrial Complex and expose the fear they never admit: Black unity and remembrance.
The 13th Amendment didn’t end slavery.
It created a loophole.
“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude… except as punishment for a crime.”
That single clause allowed forced labor to be rebranded, monetized, and expanded into one of the largest incarceration systems in the world.
Black people make up roughly 13% of the U.S. population, yet nearly 40% of the prison population. That disparity is not accidental. It is structural.
Across FBI reports, DOJ data, and criminology studies, white men numerically lead in many major crime categories, including:
Mass shootings
Domestic terrorism
Serial killings
Financial crimes costing hundreds of billions
Sexual and domestic violence
Yet Black communities are the most over-policed, over-charged, and over-sentenced.
Why?
Because the prison system is not built around justice or rehabilitation.
It is built around profit.
Private prisons are paid per body, per day.
People are not rehabilitated.
They are warehoused.
And beneath it all is the deeper truth:
This was never about skin color.
It’s about who Black people are as a people.
History shows that every time Black people remember who we are, we organize, build, lead, and transform societies. That is the real threat.
They don’t fear Black pain.
They fear Black remembrance.
