Last November, two organizations in the United States joined forces to file seven lawsuits against OpenAI, which operates ChatGPT.

At the heart of those cases, the allegation that the company released GPT-4o too soon, lacking *"proper testing and safeguards."

Host Molly Thomas speaks to Etienne Brisson. He says he watched a loved one develop delusions after interacting with a chatbot. That experience inspired him to start The Human Line Project – a support network for people who say they were harmed by AI.

Last fall, we spoke to Canadian Allan Brooks (AI Chatbots & Therapy) about his mental health struggles after spending more than 300 hours on ChatGPT. Meetali Jain, one of the lawyers helping him sue OpenAI, joins the show to break down the details of the case and the complex legal questions under consideration.

We also hear from Pete Furlong – a senior policy analyst at the Center for Humane Technology. He talks about product design and describes how AI chatbots mimic human conversation (anthropomorphism) and reinforce what users already think (sycophancy), as well as the guardrails required to keep people safe.
