Boiz, there are a couple things holding you back:

1. You are scared as hell of the bunkers and losing the ball with a teethed shot
2. You are scared of slapping the sand because it takes a certain amount of freedom and nonchalance.
3. You have no technique

These things all add up to a torrid time in the sand.

Fear not, as I show you the one simple way to stop keeping it in the bunkers. Stop duffing it just outside the bunker.

The chipping technique works 3 out of 10 times. The other 7 end in double or triple or worse. The deceleration technique never works and you spend all day at the beach.

The only way to play a bunker shot is to slap the and with a hunged wrist action on the way back and flip the wrist on the way through. Use your right hand to slap the sand with eht sole of the club.

But you need to get over your fear when doing this. You MUST hit sand without a ball there. you must get used to the sound and the feeling without fear of a ball in the way.

Then you place the ball back and slap the sand one inch behind it. This will not work instantly, but within 20 shots, you should be getting it. if you're on the course, just hit practice strokes before your shot. No one is going to report you to the R& A or USGA.

This is not the British open and if anyone stops you from doing it and wants to penalize you, drop them like first period math. This is your game and the only way to get it right is to get it right. You won't get it right by living in fear and following rules that are put in place for people with handicaps and who play in tournaments.

You have to stop sucking at some point and if that means bending the rules to have more fun in 3 or 4 rounds, then do it. you can always start hovering the club above the sand in the next few rounds. For now, let's get you thumping the ball onto the green.
