Poem by Tennessee Williams
Read by Eugene Burger
Designed and Animated by Jordan Wright
This animated poetry film brings to life the poem by Tennessee Williams.
It is especially significant because it is read by the late Eugene Burger, a highly respected magician who had a deep love of poetry. Although he is gone his deep, golden voice lives on.
I have always found this poem fun and humorous to recite. After recording my friend Eugene reciting it, I began to imagine it as a biographical story, or memory, being told by him. This made me think about the old silhouette cutouts people used to have made for their loved ones. Using silhouettes seemed to fit the mood and complement the simplicity of the poem. I made the initial silhouettes using Illustrator, then animated them and added paper textures in After Effects.
