Short Hike, Epic Views: Sam Knob off the Blue Ridge Parkway

Описание: Join me and a friend as we tackle the short-but-sweet hike to Sam Knob's dual summits, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at MP 420 in the Pisgah National Forest. This just over 2.5-mile round trip has a lot to offer: a seasonal wildflower-filled meadow, wild blueberries, and of course, those cool mountain breezes that occur at 6,000+ feet.

Leaving the parking lot, the trail drops through to Sam Knob Meadow at the start, then climbs through mountain laurel tunnels and lichen-covered forests. We reach an obvious split in the trail and head right to the first summit where rock outcrops give us panoramic views of Devil's Courthouse, Black Balsam Knob, and the Shining Rock Wilderness. Back to the split and the other direction to the second summit, you get really great views of even more 6,000' peaks like Waterrock Knob and the Plott Balsams.

If you're looking for a quick adventure near Asheville and Brevard with a big payoff, or you just need to stretch your legs while traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, this one's hard to beat. This hike was an add-on from an already busy day hiking nearby for us!
