This is a performance demo of the Korg padKontrol being used to play the notes of the Korg Kaossilator Pro.
Considered to be such a huge miss by Korg, the Kaossilator Pro and Pro+ can not "Typically" receive midi note data sent by an external midi controller keyboard.
Because of a unique feature on the Korg padKontrol (which is not available on 95% of the Pad type controllers, today) I was able to program my trusty, 10 year old, padKontrol to play the notes on the Kaossilator Pro. There is no computer involvement. No special Midi or Midi conversion boxes were used. The padKontrol is not working in any special mode such as "native". Neither the Kaossilator Pro nor the padKontrol have been modded in any way shape or form.
I have been using this as part of my primary set-up for my band Toaster Music. The Kaossilator Pro has been my lead instrument for 4 years.
As of this year (2015) I have changed my rig to the new Korg Electribe series (E2 and ES2). I have let the Kaossilator set up go. To me, the new Electribe series was easy to adapt to largely because the Electribe 2 and Electribe S2 are very much the same set up I have been using for 4 years, all tucked away nicely, in one groove box.
It is my hope that Korg continues to support and expand on Pad based external controllers, preferably one that could be used with their new Electribe series. A Pad Kontrol needs to be added to their 'Tactile' series of external midi controllers.
Before you ask, yes, I will be adding a how-to video with a link to the .kpks file you will need to do the same.
