Описание: The F-16 Fighting Falcon is the most combat-proven fighter jet ever built. With over 4,600 airframes produced since 1976 and more than 2,100 still in active service across twenty-five nations as of 2026, it represents fifteen percent of all active combat aircraft in the world. No other Western fighter has fought in more wars, been sold to more countries, or remained in front-line service longer. It is not a relic. It is not a transitional aircraft waiting to be replaced. In the spring of 2026, F-16s are actively engaged in or adjacent to live combat operations on multiple continents simultaneously, and this documentary tells the complete story of how that came to be.
In June 2025, Israeli Air Force F-16I Sufa jets led one of the most consequential airstrikes in modern history, striking Iranian nuclear enrichment facilities, air defense networks, ballistic missile launchers, and military command infrastructure across fourteen Iranian cities including Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah during the twelve-day Israel-Iran War. Approximately two hundred Israeli aircraft participated in the opening phase of the operation, which Israel called Operation Rising Lion. The F-16I Sufa, a customized Israeli variant of the Fighting Falcon with conformal fuel tanks that extend its range by fifty percent, carried GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs and AIM-120B AMRAAM missiles on those missions. Israeli strikes destroyed approximately eighty Iranian surface-to-air missile systems, fifteen Iranian aircraft, seventy radars, six airports and air bases, over thirty-five missile and air defense production facilities, and dozens of command centers.
At the same time, the United States repositioned F-16 Block 50 jets from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and Aviano Air Base in Italy toward the Middle East, with additional aircraft observed on commercial satellite imagery at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean in February 2026. These Block 50 aircraft, described by analysts as among the most capable F-16s in the American inventory due to their specialization in suppressing enemy air defenses, joined a broader American military buildup that included F-22 Raptors, F-35 Lightning IIs, B-2 Spirit bombers, and multiple carrier strike groups. The Trump administration was demanding a new nuclear accord with Iran that would prohibit uranium enrichment, and the military repositioning was a direct expression of that pressure.
In Ukraine, F-16s delivered by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway have been flying active combat missions since August 2024, primarily in the air defense intercept role against Russian cruise missiles, Shahed one-way attack drones, and ballistic missiles. Ukrainian pilots reported that over eighty percent of the missiles launched by their F-16s hit their targets. The aircraft proved effective but the operational environment was extraordinarily dangerous. Ukraine confirmed the loss of four F-16s and three pilots between August 2024 and June 2025, including Lieutenant Colonel Oleksiy Mes in August 2024 and Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Ustimenko in June 2025, both of whom died while defending Ukrainian cities against massive Russian aerial assaults. Despite those losses, the allied commitment to supplying Ukraine with F-16s continued, with approximately eighty-five total airframes committed by Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium.
This documentary covers the complete technical story of the F-16 from the ground up. We examine the fly-by-wire flight control system and the relaxed static stability aerodynamic design that makes the aircraft so extraordinarily maneuverable, the blended wing body configuration and the leading edge strakes that allow it to sustain tight turns at angles of attack that would stall a conventional fighter, the reclined ejection seat and side-mounted control stick that help pilots sustain the nine times gravity loads the airframe is rated for, and the frameless bubble canopy that gives F-16 pilots one of the best visibility envelopes of any fighter ever built. We cover the full radar evolution from the original AN/APG-66 through the AN/APG-68 variants to the modern AN/APG-83 scalable agile beam active electronically scanned array radar fitted to the F-16V Viper. We examine the complete weapons suite including the internal M61A1 Vulcan 20-millimeter cannon.
The F-16 began as a proposal the Air Force largely opposed, built by a team of engineers who believed the entire direction of American fighter development was wrong. It became the most produced Western fighter jet in history and the most widely exported combat aircraft of its generation. The F-16V Viper Block 70 and 72, currently in production at Lockheed Martin's facilities in Fort Worth and Greenville, is projected to remain in service with some operators until at least 2060, more than eighty years after the first production F-16A was delivered. This is the complete story of the aircraft that changed air combat forever.
