The weekend of April 9th and 10th saw the first excursions Norfolk & Western 611 had pulled in over 2 decades, with the beautiful J Class 4-8-4 pulling a 22 car train to the cities of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Asheville, North Carolina, respectively. See the Queen of Steam fly through small towns, blast through the countryside, and conquer the Southern Loops! This beginning to the 2016 excursion season for the 611 truly was an experience to behold, and could not be done without the fantastic organization and planning done by Norfolk Southern, Fire Up 611!, the Virginia Museum of Transportation, the crews of the 611, and all other contributors to the consist.
