Long queues outside gas agencies and panic bookings have been reported in places like Noida, Pune, Mumbai, and other major cities, with many consumers saying they have been “waiting all day” to secure LPG refills.

The situation has been triggered by disruptions in global energy supply linked to the escalating West Asia conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which has raised concerns about shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy route for India’s LPG imports.

The shortage has already begun impacting daily life and businesses. Restaurants, hotels, street food vendors and small eateries across several cities are struggling as commercial LPG cylinders run out of stock, forcing many kitchens to cut menu items or temporarily shut operations.

In some places, the crisis has led to black marketing of LPG cylinders, with prices reportedly shooting up to ₹3,000–₹4,500 per cylinder in the grey market as demand surges and supply tightens.

The government has urged citizens not to panic or hoard LPG cylinders, stating that domestic supplies remain stable and steps are being taken to boost production and manage distribution during the global energy disruption. Officials say LPG production has been increased by nearly 28% to ensure households continue to receive cooking gas.
