✨Couldn’t make it to Flock Fiber Festival this year? Or maybe you were there but missed a talk while you were busy hunting down the perfect skein? 🧶 Don’t worry—I recorded the Flock Talks so you can revisit the conversations that made the festival unforgettable and connect with the people shaping the fiber arts community.
This episode features Jonna Helin, co-founder of @LainePublishing known worldwide for its beautiful knitting magazines, pattern books, and thoughtful approach to craft. Jonna is one of those speakers who gives so much of herself in conversation—you don’t just listen, you learn and feel along with her.
In this talk, Jonna opens up about:
✨ Her maker journey and the story behind Laine Publishing
✨ Navigating the realities of today’s publishing world
✨ The most rewarding thing she’s ever done in her business life
✨ Honest talk on mental health and finding balance through creativity
✨ Launching Laine’s NEW Yarn + the partnership with Novita
✨ The values she brings to everything she does in the knitting + maker community
✨ Where she finds inspiration
✨ How she refuels when she feels disconnected from creativity and joy
If you’ve ever held a copy of Laine Magazine or one of their books, you’ve felt the care Jonna brings to every detail. This conversation is about more than publishing—it’s about evolving, growing, and keeping joy at the center of making.
So whether you’re knitting sleeves, weaving at your loom, crocheting one more row, or just love yarn talk… we’re here to keep you and your WIP company.

🌿 What is Flock Fiber Festival?
https://flockfiberfestival.com
Flock is Seattle’s yearly yarn party—a weekend packed with incredible vendors, classes, and community. It’s where knitters, crocheters, spinners, and makers come together to shop, learn, and connect. All brought to you by:

🧶 What are Flock Talks?
Flock Talks are basically a live podcast on stage—me chatting with the incredible vendors and makers who bring the marketplace to life. It’s all about getting to know the humans behind the skeins, the passion behind the booths, and the stories that make your yarn extra special.

About the host:
Jen Joyce is the creator and host of Making Conversation, a podcast that’s all about the makers, fiber artists, and crafters shaping the creative world. With over 15 years of experience in marketing—working with industry giants like Uber and award-winning agencies—Jen brings a unique blend of storytelling, strategy, and creativity to the podcast.
Jen is passionate about connecting with makers and sharing untold stories of resilience, creativity, and joy in crafting. In 2023, she took over Making Conversation, transforming it into a video podcast on YouTube. Fueled by her ADHD-driven curiosity, she dove in, learned it all—and here we are. 😉
Jen’s based in Seattle with her partner, Daniel, and two rescue pups, Marcelo and Bennie, who may or may not make guest appearances in the background. When she’s not behind the mic, you’ll find Jen obsessed with fashion, lifting heavy weights, traveling to visit her besties, or knitting a WIP (or five). She’s also may or may not be secretly pondering how she could make podcasting her full-time gig. 🤔
