Transmethylation Reaction
This comes under general reactions of Amino acids.
This reaction is due to Methyl group in the side chain.
The enzyme catalysing this reaction is known as Methyl transferase.
Compounds having labile Methyl group can donate the Methyl group to acceptors.
The most important Methyl group donar is , S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAM )
SAM is the active form of Methionine.
Transmethylation forms important compounds like
Epinephrine, Choline,Creatine,Spermine ,spermidine etc.
