Giuseppe Sammartini (1695-1750)
Sonata VI from 12 Trio Sonatas
Adagio – Allegro – Largo – Allegro
Our favourite Scottish Baroque composer, James Oswald, published much of his own music, and that of his friends, under the mysterious banner of ‘The Society of the Temple of Apollo’. One member of this London-based society was Giuseppe Sammartini, an Italian oboe player and composer who shamed his English counterparts with his virtuosity. This trio sonata is a fantastic example of his operatic mid-Baroque style.
