Heather Chaplin is director of the Journalism + Design program at The New School. She is the recent recipient of a Knight Foundation grant for innovation in journalism education as well as the recipient of a Knight Foundation prototype grant for modeling complexity in the news. Chaplin covered videogames for ten years working for All Things Considered, The New York Times, Details, and The LA Times, among others. She is the co-author of "Smartbomb: The Quest for Art, Entertainment and Big Bucks in the Videogame Revolution," a New York Times notable book of 2006.
About the Journalism + Design program:
Journalism + Design is an interdisciplinary bachelor of arts degree combining the rigorous critical thinking with creative design thinking. Chaplin will discuss the creation of the Journalism + Design program at The New School, and the importance of human-centered journalism as a way of competing in today's complex media ecosystem.
