San Francisco Animal Care and Control is the animal control department in the city and is responsible for enforcing all animal control laws. The Animal Control and Welfare Commission is an advisory body to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the city's governing council. On March 15, 2018, former police officer and veteran hearing officer for the city's vicious and dangerous dog hearings, John Denny, made a presentation to the Commission outlining problems at Animal Care and Control that compromise public safety in San Francisco. Meanwhile, this mismanaged agency is being handed over $81 million to construct a new animal shelter for the city that originally was slated to cost $26.5 million.
