In this video I decided to create a small guitar tutorial for “Evolution” by Symphony X, since there isn’t much detailed material available online.
I actually learned the song by ear, trying to stay as faithful as possible to the original feel and phrasing.
The tutorial includes:
• Main riff
• Both guitar solos
For the first solo in the intro section, I played it in two slightly different versions both feel valid to me.
You can evaluate which interpretation works best for you.

Guitar: Michael Romeo Signature Caparison
Modeler: Quad Cortex
For the tones:
– Rockman Sustainor captures for the lead parts
– Mesa/Boogie Triaxis + Marshall cabinets for the rhythm tones
After recording, I used:
– Ozone Tone Match EQ to get closer to the album sound
– A Pultec-style EQ to refine and shape the final tone
