🌙 About Raag Bihag :
Raag Bihag is a melodious and romantic raga that belongs to the Bilawal Thaat. It is traditionally performed in the night (second prahar) and is known for its sweet, graceful, and devotional mood.
The raga beautifully blends simplicity with richness — evoking feelings of peace, joy, and love.
Thaat: Bilawal
Jati: Audav–Sampurna (five notes in ascent, seven in descent)
Vadi (most important note): Ga (Gandhar)
Samvadi (second important note): Ni (Nishad)
Time: Late evening to midnight
Aaroh (ascending): Sa Ga Ma Pa Ni Sa’
Avaroh (descending): Sa’ Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Ma Ga Re Sa
Raag Bihag is unique because it uses both Madhyams (Ma) — Shuddh Ma and Teevra Ma — and that gives it its distinct sweetness and sparkle.
• The Shuddh Ma maintains the sweetness and purity of the raga.
• The Teevra Ma adds a touch of brilliance and sparkle, especially in the descending phrases (Avaroh), giving Bihag its distinctive flavor.
This interplay of both Ma’s makes Bihag rich, graceful, and full of emotional depth.
