Labor’s housing bureaucracy is in disarray. Reports suggest Housing Minister Clare O’Neil had to 'read the riot act' to the board of Housing Australia, though officials in Senate Estimates desperately tried to spin it as a 'constructive discussion.'
I also questioned why a Treasury official has been planted as an 'observer' on the Housing Australia board. Is this independent governance, or is the government trying to exert control from the inside?
We also learned that Labor’s shared equity scheme, Help to Buy, is launching with just two participating banks. Worse, the government admits they conduct no credit checks on borrowers, leaving the taxpayer exposed to risk. Labor is more interested in bureaucracy and board meetings than actually building the homes Australians need.
