The INEOS Grenadier is a bold new entry in the off-road vehicle market, designed to capture the spirit of the classic Land Rover Defender while incorporating modern engineering and technology. Conceived by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of INEOS, the Grenadier was born from a desire to create a no-nonsense, rugged vehicle capable of tackling the toughest terrains. With a starting price of around $76,000, the Grenadier offers a robust package that includes a BMW-sourced 3.0L inline-six turbocharged engine, delivering 282 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain, combined with components from renowned manufacturers like ZF and BF Goodrich, ensures that the Grenadier is not only powerful but also reliable and capable of handling extreme conditions.
The Grenadier's design is a nod to the utilitarian aesthetics of its predecessors, featuring a boxy silhouette, high ground clearance, and iconic round headlights. Inside, the vehicle blends old-school charm with modern functionality, eschewing a traditional driver display for a central screen that keeps the driver's view unobstructed. The switchgear, inspired by aircraft cockpits, adds to the vehicle's unique character. Available in multiple trims, including the exclusive 1924 Edition, the Grenadier is built for customization, allowing owners to tailor it to their specific needs, whether for off-road adventures or everyday utility. With its combination of heritage-inspired design and cutting-edge engineering, the INEOS Grenadier is poised to become a favorite among off-road enthusiasts and Defender loyalists alike. Additionally, INEOS's deep involvement in F1 racing as a principal partner to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team underscores the company's commitment to high performance and innovation.

Forbes covers the intersection of entrepreneurship, wealth, technology, business and lifestyle with a focus on people and success.
When a billionaire decides he wants something, all it takes is vision, passion, tenacity and a small army to make it happen. Money, it turns out, isn’t the only component. All of that is what Sir Jim Ratcliffe, founder of chemical and petroleum company Ineos, brought to his mission to build an iconic off-roader fit for traversing moors and savannas as well as the gravel lanes and city streets of daily life.
Fast forward a lowly eight years and the result is Ineos Automotive and the company’s flagship SUV, the Grenadier, a boxy four-wheeler filled with aircraft-like controls, top-notch machinery and an accessory-ready design. Of course it’s equipped with true four wheel drive and powered by a BMW six-cylinder engine that generates 282 hp and 331 pound-feet of torque. Its power is muscular, but not the sporty output of similarly-priced and capable SUVs such as the Land Rover Defender with up to 425 hp, the Lexus GX, which produces 349 hp or the Range Rover Sport, which produces 395 hp. Inside, the Grenadier is yang to the yin of its competitors: the focus is more about journey, less about the comforts along the way.
Which isn’t to say it’s uncomfortable; Ineos offers leatherette or leather seating, both designed for resilience and ease of cleaning. There are plenty of cup holders, USB ports and a smallish multimedia touch screen for managing music and other functions. But the clear focus of this SUV is the “option of anywhere,” as the company says on its website.
Ineos Automotive was first hatched on the back of a napkin at Ratcliffe’s favorite London pub, The Grenadier—for which the flagship SUV is named—where he sketched a plan for his ideal: an SUV inspired by the then-defunct Land Rover Defender. The Grenadier’s design instantly brings to mind Queen Elizabeth driving her Defender across the fields of her Sandringham Estate; time behind the wheel empowered her capability for any task on the farm and fortified her confidence as head of the monarchy.
