Today I'm making "Potato Cakes for Breakfast," an 1886 recipe from my antique 19th-century copy of "The Farm and Household Cyclopedia: A complete and ready reference library for farmers, gardeners, fruit growers, stockmen and housekeepers, containing a large fund of useful information, facts, hints and suggestions." (This is a good recipe for using up leftover mashed potatoes.) My cat Psyche offers to help, then decides she'd rather just eat an extra egg I wasn't using.
