Zimbabwe has taken a major step toward safer blood transfusions after the National AIDS Council donated advanced Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) machines to the National Blood Service Zimbabwe. These state-of-the-art machines can detect HIV and other infections at very early stages—even before symptoms appear—significantly reducing the risk of transmitting infections through donated blood.
The introduction of NAT technology strengthens Zimbabwe’s blood safety system, ensuring that patients who rely on transfusions, including mothers, accident victims, and those undergoing surgery, receive safer blood. Health officials say this development marks a critical milestone in protecting public health and advancing the country’s fight against HIV and other transfusion-transmitted infections.
Watch this report to learn how this life-saving technology will transform blood safety in Zimbabwe and protect thousands of lives
