Sanwa Hotel in Kobe is one of the most Dirteset and Cheapest accommodations in Japan.
Located in the old-school Shinkaichi area (新開地) of Hyogo Ward, right near Kobe Station (about 3–8 min walk), this place has been running since 1959 as a classic doya (simple lodging for day laborers).🕰️👷
Price: Still shockingly cheap — ¥1,100 per night (no TV) TV room is around ¥1,550 📺
Rooms: Tiny (about 1 tatami ≈ 1.65㎡), very basic = just futon + minimal space
Entry system: Pay at the counter → get scissors → cut the zip tie locking your own door yourself✂️🪢
Atmosphere: Time-frozen昭和 retro feel + lots of YouTuber/insta horror-adventure content
→ Entrance often has wanted posters, long-term residents, super raw Japan-underbelly experience
Not a normal "hotel" at all — more like a living piece of postwar Kobe history that somehow survived into 2026.
