Video of the red channel marker buoy that is next to the South Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge under max ebb of a spring tide, with extra current added from all the rain. Prediction said today's current at about time of this video would be 5.3 knots (at center of channel). This was a spring tide, so about as strong a current as we get each month.
I have never seen the red buoy get submerged, so it looks like there was an extra knot or two of current due to near flooding rains we have had recently.
For those that don't know channel markers, they are chained to the bottom and mark the edge of the boating channels. That marker is for the big ships, and is large (over 10' tall). Because of the strong currents, it is being dragged sideways and underwater.
