Centaur foal | OOAK art doll making process

Описание: DIY ball-jointed OOAK art doll. Fully posable.
There were a lot of “firsts” with this project, and it took me almost six months to complete.
I’d never made resin eyes or sculpted elbow joints before, so I loosely followed these tutorials:

As for the horse body: I wanted it to be a little fluffy and was worried the hooves would disappear under the fur, so I made them bigger. Turns out… not my best decision 😅 as I then had to make the legs thicker than originally planned. The fur is also a bit much, but I couldn’t find a better alternative - everything else I tried looked far too shiny and synthetic.
The final piece doesn’t quite look like a centaur, but I still love the little guy.

Materials used:

Doll head and upper body
• Super Sculpey Living Doll polymer clay Espresso (+ Cosclay Doll to strengthen the hand joints)
• Sculpey Bake & Bond oven-bake clay adhesive
• Sculpey clay softener for smoothing the surface before baking
• Fimo sanding sponges for smoothing the surface after baking
• Aluminium foil and stainless steel wire to help during the process of sculpting

Horn
• Cernit polymer clay (translucent white) + gold mica powder

Body
• Legs - 3 pieces of 2 mm stainless steel wire twisted together.
• Butt - Sculpey Living Doll clay + fishing weights.
• Hooves - Sculpey Living doll clay
• Upholstery batting glued on with PVA.
• Foam underwrap tape
• Faux fur fabric.

• Stainless steel hooks, elastic + 1 bead
• Silicone circle + faux suede for protection
• NIB magnets
• Magnets glued with E6000 Plus
• Horn glued with E6000 Plus

Painting:
• Vallejo acrylic paint
• Golden and brown mica powder
• Vallejo Satin Spray Varnish

Hair
• 100% acrylic yarn
• PVA glue

Eyes
• eye whites made from Cernit white mixed with Cernit translucent white
• irises: Cernit polymer clay + mica powder
• UV resin
• fake lashes glued with PVA
