Saito FA-62 RC Glow Engine Troubleshooting REVISED Part 3, checking the RC glow plug

Описание: Part 3 revised. Trouble with my Saito FA-62. Been flying my Hangar 9 Piper J3 Cub for a few years now with a Saito FA-62 four stroke engine. Was running great for a long time. But recently it’s been stalling when the tank gets to be about halfway full, or halfway through a flight. Well, I did a lot of searching online and checking RC Plane Forums such as RC Universe and RC Groups for some advice and I got a few nice viewer comments with some tips (thanks!). The popular advice was that there must be a leak in the fuel line inside the tank that when the fuel drops to half tank, the line draws air which leans the mixture and stalls the engine. This made sense to me. So, I checked the fuel system and replaced all the fuel lines and installed new Dubro tank, but nothing stood out as a problem (see the last video on this: Part 2).

So, in this video I decided to check the glow plug. I try to discuss a little about rc glow plugs and how I check them to see if they are working. I discuss some signs or conditions that could indicate if your glow plug is bad. Sometimes it's an easy answer, the glow plug is not glowing, its bad, replace it. But what about when your glow plug appears to be working but something is just not right? There is no clear answer, but usually a good simple test is to just replace with a new glow plug. If that fixes the problem, then your glow plug was bad. If replacing it does not fix the problem, then something else is wrong.

Here I discuss a few different types of glow plugs. I use OS Engines or OS Max Engine glow plugs such as the common No. 8 glow plug for two stroke glow engines, and the OS Engines Type F for four stroke glow engines, and the Saito four stroke glow plugs. I also mention rechargeable battery-operated glow drivers and the using a Power Panel set up. Based on my evaluation, it appears that my glow plug was not as pwerful as it should be and was worn out. So I replaced it with a new OS Engines Type F glow plug.

In the next video in this series, I will show how I set the valve lash. I think the old glow plug was my main issue. But hopefully I will find out why this engine keeps stalling and fix it. Stay tuned.
