🎬 CM VIJAY'S FIRST MONTH IN OFFICE: FROM ₹10 LAKH CRORE DEBT TO ₹1.5 TRILLION DREAMS! 😱🇮🇳🔥
The actor-turned-politician who became Tamil Nadu's 13th Chief Minister on May 10, 2026, has hit the ground running. From signing 3 flagship files within hours of taking oath to reviewing 436 schemes at his first cabinet meeting, here is everything CM Vijay has accomplished in his first month! 👇🧵
---
HISTORIC ASCENT – END OF A 60-YEAR DUOPOLY 🏛️
Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won 108 seats in its debut election, polling 34.92% vote share . With support from Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML, the coalition crossed the majority mark of 118, ending nearly six decades of DMK-AIADMK rule . He was sworn in on May 10 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium before thousands of cheering supporters .
"I don't come from a royal family. I am a normal man living a normal life. I won't deceive you by making grand unrealistic promises" – CM Vijay, in his maiden address .

DAY 1 – THREE FILES, THREE PRIORITIES 📝
Within minutes of taking oath, Vijay signed his first three government orders :
1. 200 units free electricity – Households consuming up to 500 units bimonthly receive 200 units free; those above 500 units get 100 units. The government will bear an additional ₹1,730 crore annual subsidy .
2. Singapenn Special Task Force – A dedicated police unit to combat crimes against women, equipped with surveillance drones and body cameras – a first in India .
3. Anti-Narcotic Task Force expansion – 65 new police stations sanctioned – one in each of 37 districts plus 28 across 9 city commissionerates .

FIRST CABINET MEETING – 436 SCHEMES REVIEWED 📋
On June 5, Vijay held his first cabinet meeting, reviewing the "Vetri Tamizhagam" vision document – a 436-point blueprint categorized into 10 pillars based on sections of the Tirukkural .
His warning to ministers: "Under no circumstances should they engage in bribery or corruption. If such actions occur, immediate and stringent action will be taken."
Key promises under review:
· ₹2,500 monthly assistance for women heads of families
· 6 free LPG cylinders annually
· 8 grams gold + silk saree for brides from low-income families
· Complete crop loan waiver for farmers with up to 5 acres
· ₹15,000 annual support for children in government schools
· 5 lakh government jobs + 5 lakh paid internships

NITI AAYOG MEETING – PLACING TAMIL NADU'S DEMANDS 🗣️
At his first Niti Aayog Governing Council meeting on June 11, Vijay presented a comprehensive list of demands to PM Modi :
· Exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET – Argued it has "adversely affected students from rural backgrounds"
· Release pending funds – ₹3,284 crore under Samagra Shiksha scheme + ₹2,284 crore for Hogenakkal Phase-II water scheme
· Declare Thirukkural as "national literature"
· Sanction second AIIMS in Coimbatore
· Approve 6 national highway projects
· Support Kulasekarapattinam as National Space Manufacturing Hub
· Protect fishermen's rights – Urged diplomatic intervention for release of detained fishermen and boats
Later, he held a separate bilateral meeting with PM Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg – his second meeting with the Prime Minister in less than a month.

24X7 WATER SUPPLY – A 5-YEAR DEADLINE 💧
On June 8, Vijay set an ambitious target: 24x7 drinking water supply in all 25 corporations, 146 municipalities and 479 town panchayats within 5 years. Initially, he ordered at least 3 hours of daily supply immediately .
Officials estimate the urban infrastructure overhaul will require ₹1.5 lakh crore investment over five years, to be raised through Union schemes, municipal bonds, and international funding .
---
THE ₹10 LAKH CRORE DEBT – A BURDEN TO BEAR 💰
In his maiden address, Vijay revealed the fiscal challenge his government inherited: "The previous government has taken loans worth over ₹10 lakh crore. They have emptied the coffers and left behind an unbearable burden" .
Political analyst T Ramakrishnan estimates implementing all poll promises would require ₹1.5-2 lakh crore annually – an additional burden of roughly ₹25,000 crore just for the women's assistance scheme alone .
---
THE COALITION CHALLENGE – SMOOTH SO FAR 🤝
Despite having only 108 seats of its own (and needing support from 5 other parties), the coalition has functioned remarkably smoothly. Analyst T Ramakrishnan noted: "One hardly feels that Tamil Nadu is being governed by a coalition. It appears almost like a single-party government" .
